WHY AZDEL?
A one-stop look at the key points explained throughout this website.

This website offers an abundance of information about Azdel Onboard® composite panels. We’ve touched on features & benefits, variations of our material, all the testing we perform, applications for its use, the brands using it, and more. For some it may be overwhelming. We’d like to help with that. On this page, one can find the major bullet points that they should take away from studying this site.
FEATURES & BENEFITS
The features and benefits of Azdel have been well documented over the 20 years that it has been successfully used in RV and trailer wall construction. Listed here are those which are most known and most frequently discussed.
LESS WEIGHT: About half the weight of typical lauan at the same thickness. Less weight means: 1) increased fuel efficiency, 2) more available weight for stowage items, and 3) easier material handling during processing.
RESILIENT: Unaffected by water, temperature, humidity and the up/down cycles that often accompany these factors. Azdel also will not grow mold or mildew, and it won’t rot, warp, swell or deteriorate. By contrast, wood is negatively impacted by all of these issues.
GREENER FOOTPRINT: Ultra-low VOC’s; no formaldehyde release; low off-gassing; better against allergies and sensitive noses; sustainable; no deforestation required for production
NOISE REDUCTION: Tested to offer 2.5-X the noise reduction (sound absorption) of wood.
POSITIVE OWNERSHIP EXPERIENCE: Reduces chances of wood-related issues, reducing repair costs and downtime. Helps protect investment and increase usable RV lifespan.

PERFORMANCE & DURABILITY
Extensive testing has been conducted in a variety of areas to determine and compare the performance levels and durability of Azdel composite, wood and other composites before and after exposure to adverse conditions. Here are some key takeaways.
HIGH HEAT RESISTANCE: Azdel Onboard composite is proven to offer superior heat resistance and post-exposure performance compared to wood and other composites.
ENVIRONMENTAL RESISTANCE: Proven to better handle harsh and long-term environmental conditions, and continue performing well afterward compared to wood and other composites.
WATER RESISTANCE: Proven to better retain adhesive strength even after excessive exposure to water

APPLICATIONS & VERSATILITY
Azdel Onboard composite is highly versatile as a substrate and as a decorative panel. While several applications outside of RVs have been developed and proven, we know there are many more that remain undiscovered.
RV / TRAILER WALLS: Exterior and interior of sidewalls, slide-outs, front and rear walls; divider walls. Superior durability; will not delaminate if processed to guidelines.
RV / TRAILER CEILING & ROOF: Laminated ceiling and roof combinations; truss roof deck. Proposed roof deck stronger than OSB deck, reduces chance of cracking and leaks.
RV / TRAILER FLOORS: Reduces weight from OSB or plywood floors while eliminating possibility of rotting or warping.
CUSTOM PRINTED PANELS: Quality printing with or without image-matching texture for full wall panels, accent panels, backsplash, shower surround, etc.
INTERIOR WALL PANELS: In-line décor panels for decorative finish in any room, basement or garage. Use unfinished sheets as stiffening, sound-reducing backer.
UNDERLAYMENT: Instead of cork which can rot and crumble, use our composite for a thermal, vapor and sound barrier between subfloor and laminate or plank flooring. Also use as landscaping underlayment.
OFFICE PANELS: Use in cubicle or divider wall panels and ceiling tiles. Use in the making of sound-reducing panels.
